Layered Surfaces

The second production for this module was to produce objects from flat materials. The first object I made was an origami flower. The first flower was roughly and shoddily made, having produced many creases and tears to produce a smaller version of what was intended. However, a larger paper flower was produced with four sheets of plywood layered and glued together and given strength with a vacuum press to hold its shape with the aid of a hard cuboid surface. The small flower was placed inside the new flower so as to find some use for the original design.

Another object made for this production was a mask made of layered plywood. This became a Halloween mask (like a Storm Trooper from Star Wars), or even a welder’s mask.

This process was so inspiring that another mask was made, only being pressed over a rounder surface. This produced a large faceless mask, or perhaps an eerie wall-hanging.
