MOTIVATION
In August 2020, thousands of Scottish school pupils received worse results than expected after the exam body of Scotland lowered approximately 125,000 grades. As final exams were historically cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, these results were estimated by teachers based on the performance of their pupils over the course of the year.

The SQA has also been criticised as the pass rate from many pupils with poorer backgrounds were reduced more than twice than those from richer backgrounds after intervention from the exam board. The pass rate of pupils from poorer backgrounds were reduced from teachers estimates by 15.2%, whereas the pass rates of pupils from richer backgrounds only dropped 6.9%.

We understand young people are struggling with the education system and it is our duty, through this project, to help them explore this problem so they can find a solution. This comes especially after the pupils affected by the degrading exam results felt let down and disassociated by the controversy. Our ideas would provide the necessary tools to help these pupils, particularly in public schools who feel marginalised by their incapability to adapt with the education system. It should also help open the minds of the education providers (i.e. teachers, guardians, even parents) to help their pupils learn to achieve life goals, such as further education or employment.
